What kind of diet supplement (for importing some herb medicine from a foreign country) needs FDA approval?

All Prescribtion Medication to inlude over the counter drugs (Herbal medications included) are subject to FDA approval.

Any single one that makes a claim that belongs on a drug...Google DSHEA 1996 complianceThats the law governs all labeling and claims on dietary supplements.You might want to wander around the FDA website for a while...Youre bound to get more info there than on yahoo answers Also, if you are importing these things, you have to be sure to get the proper paper work from the department of homeland security (no kidding), the united states border patrol (better known as Customs" and the IRS...j - I hate to tell you this, but 99.9% of the supplements for sale in the US do NOT have FDA approval...

Diet supplements are specifically exempt from the FDA approval process. This is at the request of the companies that make the supplements because if they wanted FDA approval they would have to prove that the supplement has some medical value, which none of them do, and so they prefer to remain supplements. The dangerous part of this is that they aren't regulated and as a results many of them contain dangerous substances such as lead, mercury, and arsenic.
