Question about Winnipeg?
I think Winnipeg also was a big place to make films in the early 1920s! Charlie Chaplin used to visit Winnipeg, as did other big actors of the time! Winnipeg is currently home to the Canadian version of the CDC (centre for disease control). Specimens from all over the world are often tested there (including the H1N1 virus - coming from the states, Mexico and Canada). There is also a lot of ongoing research into crop diseases, crop pests and producing better cereal crop cultivarsManitoba in general, has quite a large timber industry (that was passed without the residences' knowledge, back in the 90s, I might add).Winnipeg is usually used as the backdrop for movies set in the 20s because the 'Old Market' area of town apparently has the largest number of older buildings from the period, and it's cheaper to film in Canada than in the States.Livestock and crops are the biggest industries (with meat processing plants and such being in the city)
